The BIRDHOUSE FARMERS MARKET Trailer Project
Right after being laid off from my graphic design employment after four years, I decided to become more heavily involved with the art world and making the studio the key in making a future for myself.
The BIRDHOUSE FARMERS MARKET TRAILER was the largest and most unique project to come to the #FOUNDPUNK studio. The mission was to take a water damaged, heavily used teardrop trailer and refurbish it to be used as marketing and transport for the market. Thanx to Bar Codez and the folks at the Birdhouse Farmers Market for trusting my capabilities and allowing me the opportunity to test my skills in design, wood working and the use of found objects to bring this once beaten trailer back to life.
The rear hatch was a complete wreck. And with the curvature, I knew it would be a challenge to figure out a solution.
The front of the trailer and battery box looked ok, but all of the stuff hanging off the sides had to go.
To make signage for the sides, the bike rack, the plastic storage box and the spare tire had to be removed or relocated.
Holy crap!!!
Water damaged wood veneer couldn’t be saved and had to be stripped off the entire trailer. Glad the weather was awesome!
A heat gun, a torch and orbital sander would get the job done…eventually.
Bare wood…
Removed the huge solar panel and taking off the rotted wood. Insulation looks good though.
Took out the molded interior wood and spiders…lots of spiders. Replaced it with newly stained wood.
Rolled the front over the existing wood slats to make it water tight.
…and the stain color I thought would look nice.
Cleaner interior.
Instead of a plain floor, I thought an inlay would look really cool and give it some personality.
Rolled the rear hatch and stained it.
The custom floor with the two color stain.
Night shot of the interior. The electrical was wired and the battery still had a charge, so I had a nice light to work by.
Antique tools and steel parts for hardware.
Antique billboard light was designed as a safety for the rear hatch.
Clean sides and good color choices make this a great looking teardrop.
Now for phase two…custom signage. Stay Tuned!
Thanx for viewing.
k!
